20.01.20 - The Escape Room Challenge

This wee adventure to Escape Rooms Scotland was a more cerebral than physical activity. Split into groups across two rooms, we had to solve puzzles, clues and riddles in order to find the key and escape. All in 60 minutes!

 Group 1 was in C.A.R.A , a game set in a lab about the world’s most intelligent artificial life, who we had to save from from those who considered her a threat.  Sorry world, but CARA is gone as we, unfortunately, failed to save her from destruction in time!

 Group 2 was aboard the Black Pearl, trapped below the deck of a simulated pirate ship. Unfortunately, the group failed to find the heart of Davy Jones in time, were captured and thrown (metaphorically) overboard.

 As you can tell from our failures, we found the games quite challenging as no one had any previous experience. The games masters were quite helpful in giving much needed clues. Now we know what to expect, hopefully next time we’ll be better placed to make our escapes in 60 minutes.

ABSEILING, 26/05/23

Another go at walking ourselves off a cliff edge, although most of this group of six had not been on the previous abseil.  It was a lovely day to be in the forest and we thoroughly enjoyed the morning, feeling perfectly safe in the hands of skilled and experienced leadership from Ancrum Activity Centre.  After a few abseils down the rock face, we were given the opportunity to climb up another face - most agreed it was far easier to come  down than go up!

08.02.2023 Axe Hurling

  For our first activity in 2023 we got rid of our frustrations by hurling axes - no, not at each other!  As in most things it's harder than it looks, although we eventually found the right technique and everyone hit the target.  We tried single handed, doubled-handed and even, with an axe in each hand aiming for both targets at once.  There were a few bull's eyes, made more special by the ringing of a brass bell to make sure no one's victory went unnoticed.

20.07.22 Stand Up Paddle Boarding

For our first Wee Adventure post-Covid we were with Wild Shore at Dundee City Harbour trying our hand at stand up paddle boarding.  Our session began with some great instruction and we were soon confident doing 'kneel-up' paddling.  Most people did manage an attempt to stand up before falling head first into, luckily warm, water.  Aren't buoyancy aids a wonderful thing!  However, there were one or two who were clearly natural paddle-boarders and managed to stay upright for quite some time.  Pity we don't have the photographic evidence to show off their talent!
